An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer ACE. The real subject is the VB2L, that is the version of the French light armored vehicle with a lengthened chassis, adapted as a mobile means of air defense with Mistral guided missiles. The model is a typical representative of a short-run kit: fine engraved detail, but at the same time a greater share of hand work than with mass-produced kits.
The basis is a light wheeled armored vehicle of French design, used for reconnaissance, liaison and escort. The lengthened version gained extra room for the crew and the equipment, which made it possible to carry weapon systems as well, including a launcher for short-range anti-aircraft missiles. The Mistral is an infrared-guided missile intended against low-flying targets, deployed from shoulder-fired as well as vehicle launchers. The vehicle thus fills the role of a quick, easily transportable air defense accompanying units on the move.
With short-run molds, reckon with the parts having thicker sprue gates and fine flash along the mold seam. It is advisable to try the fit dry, to sand the mating surfaces down and to glue with a thin cement for polystyrene applied to the joint by capillary action. Finish and paint the chassis and the wheel suspension before you close the body up. Use a primer for the base color, apply a gloss varnish under the decals after spraying and a matte varnish at the end. Do the weathering with moderation; on wheeled vehicles dust shades on the underside of the body and a light emphasis of the panel lines suit well.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
