The 1:72 Warszawa 1920 group aims at the summer of 1920 and at the fighting that took place on the approaches to the Polish capital. It is a subject that appears only rarely among figure sets, because most of what is produced concentrates on the two world wars.
The clashes of 1920 stood at the boundary between two eras of waging war. Cavalry in its traditional form, horse-drawn field artillery, the first armored cars and aircraft taken over from the inventory of the previous conflict all appeared here side by side. For a modeler that variety is exactly what makes it rewarding: in a single scene hardware can be brought together without contradiction that would not have stood side by side in 1944.
The kit of the units of the time came from the most varied sources, among others from French and Central European stocks, and it was not uniform even within one formation. Emphasize that lack of uniformity freely and let the shades of the cloth vary from gray-green to ocher. Keep the leather straps and the tall boots dark and with a light sheen; the contrast against the matte cloth will do the scene good. Do the headgear last; it is the most exposed to the eye.
For a period this specific it pays to gather period pictorial references before the first coat of paint.
