The M1000 is a heavy semi-trailer intended to transport armored vehicles including main battle tanks. It is towed behind the M1070 tractor and together they form the American combination for moving heavy vehicles by road. The semi-trailer stands on a set of axles with a large number of wheels, because the weight of the load has to be spread so that the load on one axle stays within the limits of the road. The wheels are therefore one of the most conspicuous elements of the whole combination on this subject, and in total a great many of them are visible.
In 1:72 scale the agreement of all the wheels together matters more than the detail of one piece. It pays to paint them in a batch on a stick or on double-sided tape, so that they have the same shade, and only then to fit them. Watch that all the wheels sit down in one plane, because on a semi-trailer with many axles every wheel out of line shows at once. Keep the rubber in a dark gray rather than black, and apply dust pigments only after fitting to the model, so that the transition between the wheels and the chassis reads as one.
