An orange glow after the lights go out

Phosphorescent material works simply: it charges from the ordinary light in a room and gives it back for some time after the lights go out. For gaming elements this has a practical consequence, because the boundary of a zone stays legible even in subdued lighting and does not have to be looked for with a flashlight. The package holds five such barriers and five stands to go with them.

A single barrier is ten centimeters long and two and a half centimeters tall, and a stand is likewise ten centimeters long and two centimeters wide. The material is two and a half millimeters thick. The low profile means that a barrier does not get in the way of the view of the table and does not cover the figures standing behind it, while from the side it is clearly visible where the boundary runs.

How to work with the elements

Charging is fastest under cold white light; an ordinary bulb starts the glow more slowly. The orange tone is striking in itself, so the set also comes into its own in full lighting as a colored marker of progress or as a wall of fire in a story game. Anyone who wants to work the arrangement permanently into a scene can paint and fit out the stand; the glowing part itself is better left without a coat of paint, however, or it will stop working.

After a game the elements come apart and are stored flat, so they take up no more room in a box than a sheet of paper. The phosphorescent material is not used up by wear, and the cycle of charging and glowing can be repeated for as long as you like. The only things that really weaken the glow are settled dust and a yellowed layer of grease from the hands, and both can be prevented by wiping it from time to time.
