A collector's figure of the Austrian emperor from the maker Black Dog. It is not a kit of a machine but a free-standing figure where the main work is the painting, especially the face and the details of the uniform.
Franz Joseph I came to the throne at the age of eighteen in 1848 and reigned until his death in 1916, that is, for sixty-eight years. In that time the monarchy changed from a centrally governed state into the dual Austria-Hungary, whose shape was decided by the settlement with Hungary in 1867. The monarch showed himself in public almost exclusively in military uniform, and his side whiskers became a recognizable mark of the period.
With historical uniforms it is discipline in the palette that decides: keep the base tone of the coat muted and leave the attention to the facings, the buttons and the decorations. Metal elements come alive when a matte area surrounds them. Build the portrait work on the face from a mid skin layer toward the highlights and the shadows, leave the eyes for the very end and suggest them rather than draw them exactly. Suggest the decorations and the cords with a few accurate strokes rather than tracing them laboriously; at viewing distance that reads more cleanly.
The figure comes with no finish, so the final look will emerge only from your own work.
