Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded polystyrene kit in 1:144 scale, part number 144-011 from the Ukrainian manufacturer Mikromir. A photo-etched fret for the small parts that could not be made thin enough in injected plastic is included with the plastic parts. The markings are for Holland No. 1 in Royal Navy service.
Holland No. 1 was the first submarine the Royal Navy owned. Five of these craft were built under license to the design of John Philip Holland by the Vickers, Sons & Maxim shipyard at Barrow-in-Furness. Holland No. 1 was launched in October 1901 and made her first dive in a covered basin in 1902; the Admiralty had stipulated that it would take the boats over only once a dive had been demonstrated. Development moved so fast, however, that the class was obsolete almost at once and was succeeded by the much larger D class, the first British submarines meant to go beyond coastal waters. She sank while under tow in 1913, was later raised and has survived as a museum exhibit.
The hull is a simple body of revolution, so the whole credibility rests on a clean seam and on the photo-etched parts. Fill the joint and sand it smooth, then lay down a primer. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue and only after spraying. The submarine was dark all over; a slightly lightened shade and a light emphasis of the rivets will do more on a small hull than plain black. Prepare a display stand in advance.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
