About product

Canadian Typhoons 1944 to Bodenplatte - Aviaeology decals 1:32

A sheet with the markings of particular named machines: the Hawker Typhoon of Canadian squadrons, bounded in time by 1944 and by Operation Bodenplatte at the beginning of 1945. The documented machines belong to 438, 439 and 440 Squadrons, that is, to 143 Wing of the Royal Canadian Air Force, and among them are aircraft with the Pulverizer nose art. It is not a universal set of national insignia or a sheet of maintenance stencils - these are the codes, the serial numbers and the individual markings of the separate aircraft. This is part one; part two is a separate item, so check which part your subject belongs to.

The real subject

In 1944 the Typhoon Mk.IB made its name as a ground-attack aircraft of the tactical air force: four 20 mm cannon, bombs or rockets under the wing, and operations against columns, lines of communication and airfields in Normandy and onward in northwestern Europe. The Canadian 143 Wing operated it from field airfields taken over as the front moved. Operation Bodenplatte was the surprise attack by the Luftwaffe on Allied airfields on 1 January 1945, and that is exactly where the scope of this sheet closes.

Application tips

Decals are not applied with modeling cement. They go onto dried gloss varnish, are seated with water and a decal fixer and, on broken surfaces, with a decal softener, so that the film follows the rivets and panel lines. Cut the individual markings out close to the artwork. Line the squadron codes on the fuselage up with the panel lines and compare the finish with a photograph of the machine you are building.

Who the sheet is for

  • The modeler building a large Typhoon with Canadian markings
  • Anyone interested in the tactical air force in Normandy and in northwestern Europe
  • The modeler who wants a machine with documented nose art

This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
