A 1:35 plastic model kit of the 12.8 cm Flak 40 gun and the FuMG 39D radar from Amusing Hobby: a German heavy anti-aircraft gun with a fire-control set.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the German 12.8 cm Flak 40 heavy anti-aircraft gun, complemented by the FuMG 39D radar for fire control, in 1:35 scale. It is an extensive box: you build two separate assemblies that together make up a single scene.
The Flak 40 was the largest German anti-aircraft gun to reach regular service. Its caliber was 128 mm and it reached an altitude the lighter eighty-eights could not, so it was mounted mainly on concrete emplacements and on the flak towers of large cities; some of the pieces stood on railway mountings. The crew needed accurate data on the altitude and speed of the target, and that was supplied by radar of the Würzburg family. The FuMG 39D was a fire-control set with a characteristic parabolic dish that directed guns and searchlights alike. Together they are a typical arrangement of the German night air defense of the second half of the war.
Work assembly by assembly: the mounting and the barrel separately, the radar dish separately. Dry-fit the barrel and the dish before you apply any glue, because on long parts every deviation of the axis shows. Glue the plastic with liquid cement for polystyrene. German dark yellow with stripes and an overall gray are both best applied with an airbrush over a primer coat. For weathering use a wash in the recesses, scorch marks at the muzzle and dust on the bases and frames.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
