A plastic kit of the German heavy self-propelled mortar carriage in 1:35 scale, manufacturer's part number 35A014 from Amusing Hobby, a new tool from 2017. The package contains light gray frames with the barrel, the superstructure, the running gear and equipment parts, a clear frame for the vision blocks, individual track links with an assembly jig, a brass tow cable, a photo-etched fret for the engine grilles and decals. The barrel can be built at various elevations, and the hatches of the superstructure and the engine compartment open as well.
The Bär was a German design for a heavy assault gun from the period of the Second World War. The Krupp company put it forward in the spring of 1943: a 30.5 cm mortar with a barrel sixteen calibers long was to go into a fixed superstructure, and the chassis came from a modified hull of the Tiger I tank with elements of the Panther and a new suspension. The projected weight was over a hundred tons. The machine never left the drawing board and no example was built; the project was an intermediate step toward the later Sturmtiger. The model is therefore a reconstruction from period drawings.
Glue the track links in the jig that comes in the package and let them dry directly on the running gear. Paint the inside of the hull and the wheels while the hull is still open. Glue the photo-etched fret with cyanoacrylate glue; degrease the brass cable before painting, or the paint will not stay on it. The large flat surfaces of the superstructure will take a combination of pigments and washes.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
