An injection-molded plastic kit of a single craft in 1:35 scale, the Mikromir part number 35-007 from the Ukrainian maker. Check the extent of the package and the particular markings on the box.
The smallest German submarines, the so-called Kleinst-U-Boote, came about in the last two years of the war under the K-Verband command and followed a single development line: from the single-seat Neger human torpedo, which could not yet submerge, through the Marder with its flooding tank, to the craft Hai. That was markedly longer than the Marder, eleven meters with a width of only fifty-three centimeters, and the longer hull allowed larger batteries: the Hai reached up to twenty knots below the surface with an endurance of around two hours. The prototype failed in trials, however. The designation Hase stands at the very end of that line; details about it are not stated here. The kit itself is worth attention precisely because practically nobody else molds these late stages.
The hull is long and smooth, so credibility rests on the parting seam: fill it and sand through several grits. Glue the small parts of the conning tower and the pilot's transparent canopy on last, the canopy after masking and with cement for clear parts. Because the craft operated just below the surface, a fine waterline with soiling will stand out. A purely black finish will flatten so small a hull - use a slightly lightened shade.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
