An injection-molded plastic kit of the HQ-2 surface-to-air missile on its transport trailer in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. The set captures the large two-stage missile itself, the loading rail and a three-axle tractor. Besides the plastic, the box also holds a photo-etched fret, copper wire and flexible tubing for faithful detailing.
The HQ-2 is a Chinese surface-to-air missile developed from the family of Soviet V-75 missiles, known in the West as the SA-2 Guideline. It was a large two-stage missile with a jettisonable booster stage, intended to destroy high-altitude targets such as strategic bombers and reconnaissance aircraft. The assembly on a wheeled trailer with a tractor was used to transport and load the missile within the air defense system.
Build both the large missile and the trailer in subassemblies, and before painting apply a primer and spray with an airbrush. Use liquid cement for plastic and bond the photo-etched parts with super glue. Put the wire and tubing supplied to use on the cabling and the lines. On the vehicle part it pays to finish the running gear and paint the chassis before the other parts cover them. The light scheme of the missile is nicely brought to life by a restrained patina: fine washes bring out the panel seams, and dust pigments on the wheels and the underside make the assembly look real.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
