An injection-molded plastic model of the German Sd.Kfz.222 light armored reconnaissance car in 1:35 scale from Hobby Boss. The model captures the four-wheeled armored car with its open-topped turret; besides the plastic parts the box also contains photo-etched sheet and decals.
The Sd.Kfz.222 was a German light armored reconnaissance car with four-wheel drive, used from the second half of the 1930s and throughout the Second World War. Its sloped armor and low silhouette matched its reconnaissance role; in the open-topped turret it carried a 2 cm autocannon and a machine gun, protected from above by hinged wire screens against hand grenades. Its mobility made it useful for scouting and liaison.
With this vehicle it pays to assemble and paint the chassis, the drivetrain and the interior of the open turret before the assembly is closed up — with an open turret the inside stays visible, so it is worth painting carefully. Glue the plastic parts with a thin plastic cement and the fine photo-etched screens with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Apply a primer before painting, spray the color in thin coats with an airbrush and finish the weathering with washes and pigments on the chassis and the wheels.
