A plastic kit of the German heavy weapon carrier Waffenträger auf E-100 in 1:35 scale. The kit runs to about sixteen sprues, offers three barrel options (the 128 mm Flak 40, a lengthened 128 mm barrel and an exotic tapered 128/96 mm barrel), workable individual track links, photo-etched grilles for the engine louvers, metal springs in the running gear (the suspension is partly working) and nylon cord for the tow cables. No need to worry: these are not rubber band tracks. The kit has no interior; the hatches can be opened, but then they need figures to fill them or should be left closed.
The Waffenträger auf E-100 never existed. It is a so-called paper panzer: a machine that was never built, with no prototype, no production vehicle and no photograph from the front. The concept joins real components, the giant chassis of the German superheavy E-100 tank (of which only a hull was completed, captured by the Allies at the end of the war) and the 128 mm Flak 40 anti-aircraft gun, into an arrangement that never came into being during the war. Sources even differ on whether it was a period German design at all, or a later concept popularized by tank games (it is known above all from the game World of Tanks). Put plainly: you are building a machine that never ran. That is not a hoax and not a mistake: paper panzers are a popular and legitimate genre among modelers who love what-if equipment and among players of tank games. And visually it is one of the most striking models you can build: a giant gun on a giant chassis, with a silhouette quite unlike anything ordinary in a display case.
The running gear with its metal springs gives the model partly working suspension, so put it together carefully and do not glue the springs permanently, or you will lose the effect. Finish and paint the running gear before you move on to the superstructure and the gun. Put the workable track links together on a flat board. Choose one of the three barrels and keep the rest; they can be used in a diorama or as spare parts. Use thin cement for plastic, bend the fine photo-etched parts over a metal ruler and bond them with super glue. Because this is a hypothetical machine, you have a free hand with the camouflage: a late-war three-color scheme (a yellow base with brown and green), bare red oxide primer or a last-days-of-the-war look with hastily oversprayed paint all suggest themselves. Build the weathering in layers: washes into the welds, pigments for mud and dust on the running gear and the lower hull.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
