Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the training sailing ship Gorch Fock in 1:350 scale from the German manufacturer Revell. The set comes in the Model Set edition: alongside the sprues with the parts, the decals and the instructions the manufacturer also adds the basic paints, a brush and cement for polystyrene. The 1:350 scale keeps the model a reasonable size, yet it retains the three masts with their yards at full height.
Gorch Fock is a three-masted barque that the German navy uses to train sailors. Sailing ships are kept in training to this day for a good reason: work with the sails and aloft in the yards teaches a crew cooperation and responsibility in a way that cannot be practiced on a modern vessel full of electronics. The white hull with a dark stripe and the tall rig make her one of the most recognizable sailing ships of the present day, and one you see regularly at sailing ship gatherings.
The white on the hull is the most sensitive part of the work. Fill the hull joints, sand them back carefully and spray in thin coats, otherwise every unevenness will show. Mask the dark stripe at the waterline with tape and let the paint set before you peel it off. Cement the masts only after the deck is finished and watch that they stand vertical and at the same rake, ideally against the instructions laid under the model. In this scale the finest thread available or a stretched filament stands in for the rigging.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. In the Model Set edition the basic paints, a brush and glue are included in the package; other accessories are not.
