An injection-molded plastic kit of the Curtiss Tomahawk Mk.IIB fighter, that is the British version of the American P-40 type, in 1:48 scale from Bronco. The box holds over a hundred and fifty parts in medium gray plastic, nine clear parts, a small photo-etched fret and a cast resin pilot figure. The decal sheet covers six Royal Air Force machines.
Tomahawk was the British designation for the early versions of the American Curtiss P-40 fighter. The machine had an Allison engine with a characteristic angular cowling and a large radiator under the nose; it was notable for its solid structure and good speed near the ground, but high-altitude performance was something it lacked. That is exactly why Tomahawks were used mainly in North Africa in the fighter-bomber role and for direct support of ground forces, where high altitude was not called for.
According to reviews the cockpit opening on this mold is low and not deep enough compared with the real aircraft; anyone who wants accuracy should reckon with a modification or an aftermarket set. The fabric covering of the tail surfaces has more pronounced sag between the ribs than is actually the case on the real aircraft, and it can be eased by sanding back. Wash the mold release agent off the cast pilot figure and glue it with cyanoacrylate. Lay the decals over a gloss base and work with them carefully, as some builders report that they are brittle.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
