Injection-molded plastic kit of the German Dornier Do 215B-5 night fighter in 1:48 scale from the Ukrainian brand ICM. The kit has engraved surface detail, a well worked-out cockpit, a pair of DB 601 engines, detailed landing gear and an openable bomb bay. The box usually comes with optional glazing parts and generous interior detail. Follow the instruction sheet for the exact contents and the number of schemes.
The Dornier Do 215 was created as an export derivative of the fast Do 17 bomber. The Do 215B-5 version was a conversion into a heavy night fighter: it received heavy gun armament in a solid nose and a radar for guiding it onto targets at night. It served with German night fighter units in the first half of the war, among other places from bases in the Netherlands. The pair of Daimler-Benz DB 601 inverted V12 engines gave it solid performance on patrols against night raids.
Paint and fit the extensive glazed cockpit before you close up the fuselage and mask the clear parts - it is worth it, because they are clearly visible. Assemble the engines and the landing gear bays carefully. Use thin liquid cement on the plastic, and glue the delicate radar antennas with cyanoacrylate at the very end. Lay down a primer before painting; spray the night schemes (gray as well as all-black) with an airbrush and pick the panel lines out with a restrained wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
