Marston Mat 1:48 is an injection-molded plastic set of parts representing the pierced steel airfield planking used on field airfields of the Second World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an add-on injection-molded plastic set, not an aircraft model. It holds parts representing the so-called Marston Mat, that is the pierced steel planking (PSP) from which the hard surfaces of field airfields were quickly assembled in the Second World War. The set serves as a base or a surface under aircraft and vehicle models in 1:48 scale and is easily extended by joining several pieces.
Pierced steel planking was used to build temporary airfields quickly on soft or unstable ground. The holes in the planks drained the water away and the interlocked planks spread the load, so they could carry even heavy machines. It was one of the typical improvised solutions of the Allied field air forces.
Glue the parts with ordinary cement for plastic. For a realistic look we recommend oxidized steel shades, washes into the hollows, rust and dust pigments. The surface can be completed with grass or mud to suit the diorama you have in mind. By joining several sets you get a larger continuous area.
This is an add-on set, not an aircraft model. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package.
