1:48 Vietnam USAF Airfield is a themed modeling set from the Ukrainian manufacturer ICM in 1:48 scale, aimed at the surroundings of an American air base in Southeast Asia.

The ICM set in 1:48 scale is built around one theme: the operating areas of an American air base of the Vietnam War period. Unlike an ordinary kit of a single airplane, this is a themed package whose point is to put a scene together, that is, the equipment as well as what belongs with it on a base. The exact make-up of the package is stated on its packaging. ICM is a Ukrainian manufacturer of injection-molded plastic models whose molds are known for fine surface engraving and a respectable level of detail in cockpits.
American air bases in Southeast Asia had a characteristic look in the second half of the 1960s: pierced steel planking and concrete areas, shelters for equipment, dispersed stands and servicing equipment placed along the taxiways. Operations there were intensive and the equipment carried noticeable traces of the surroundings, namely dust, faded paint, oil leaks and wear on the walking surfaces. It is precisely this atmosphere that makes the theme a rewarding subject for a diorama, because the scene tells a story even without figures in motion.
With a themed set it pays off to plan the scene before you start gluing. Lay out the area of the base, the placing of the elements and the direction of view, so that the result does not come across as overcrowded. Glue the plastic parts with a thin cement for polystyrene, fill the seams over and sand them back. Lay down a primer before painting; it evens the surface out and reveals imperfections. We recommend painting with an airbrush from the darker tones to the lighter ones, with a light brightening of the upper surfaces. Build the weathering up in layers: first a wash into the engraved lines, then filters to even the tone out, and finally pigments for dust and mud at the level of the landing gear and the taxi surfaces. Choose the particular shades according to period documentation.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
