A model of the late version of the most widespread Soviet medium tank of the Second World War. In 1:35 scale, which is the most common one for military subjects, the model fits in perfectly with the figures and the other vehicles on the same shelf.
The T-34-85 is the high point of development of the T-34 series. Against the older machines it gained a larger turret for three men and a more powerful 85 mm gun. The difference was not only in firepower: in the two-man turret of the earlier versions the commander had to work the gun at the same time and had no time left to direct the fight, whereas here he could devote himself to command alone. What made the type famous stayed, that is the sloping armor plates, the wide tracks and the simple build that even a hastily trained crew could manage.
The green of Soviet vehicles looks flat on a model until it is given some life. It pays to lighten the shade a little toward the middle of large surfaces, to add edge highlighting and only then to build up the dirt. The underside does most of the work: mud laid on the tracks, dust drawn up onto the sides and wear down to bare metal on the edges of the track links and on the walking surfaces. Anyone building a winter scene can lay whitewash over the green and rub it through in places, which is exactly how it looked in practice.
