A period gas station, version A, in 1:48 scale is a diorama accessory for road and town scenes. It is not a vehicle kit but an element of the setting.
Responsibility details are not available.
A period gas station is one of the most rewarding subjects for a road diorama. It gives the scene a reason for the vehicle to be standing there, it carries color and lettering, and at the same time it makes a natural backdrop for figures. This accessory is not a kit of a car or of a building, but a separate element of the scene in an older, prewar to postwar spirit. The subject is made in version A and version B, and this is version A.
It suggests itself beside a road, on the edge of a small town, next to a workshop or next to a garage, but it also works well as an abandoned and overgrown object in a postwar scene. Place it so that a legible approach area leads up to it, otherwise it looks as though someone had set it down on a lawn. Around it, it pays to suggest a trodden surface, oil stains and tire marks. If you are building a scene with a vehicle, turn the vehicle side-on to the station so that both things can be seen at once.
After washing and drying, check the seating surfaces and clean up the parting lines. Apply the primer thinly; on period pumps a rich, striking shade then pays off, because advertising color belongs to the subject. Most of the work is done by weathering: suggest chipped paint with a sponge or with a brush carrying almost dry paint, run rust from the top downwards the way water flows, and dust the lower part of the piece with pigment. Suggest the glazed parts with a drop of clear varnish. Keep the lettering sparing, as illegible remains of letters look more convincing than a perfect advertising panel.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and a base for the diorama are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
