About product

Queen Mary 2 in 1:700 scale from Revell

An injection-molded plastic kit of the ocean liner Queen Mary 2 in 1:700 scale. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The number of parts and the contents of the decal sheet are given in the instructions supplied with the kit, and the length of the finished model is stated on the box.

The real subject

Queen Mary 2 is a Cunard ocean liner brought into service in 2004 and built primarily for the scheduled transatlantic run between Europe and North America. She differs from a typical cruise ship in her very structure: she has a classic sharply cut liner hull with a higher service speed and the toughness for crossing the open Atlantic, not just accommodation for staying in warm waters. What is characteristic is the tall tiered superstructure, the single funnel and the stern with its open decks. The ship is among the largest passenger vessels ever built and is the last great representative of the classic transatlantic tradition.

Building and painting tips

Decide first whether you will build the model with the full hull or cut it down at the waterline to set it into a water surface - do that at the start, not once it is assembled. Paint the hull and the superstructure separately and join them only after clear-coating, otherwise masking the crisp lines between the black hull and the white superstructure will not really come off. At a very small scale most of the work is done by a clean crisp transition of colors and fine decals; overdone weathering does a model more harm than good. Railings and fine details can be added with a separate photo-etched set. The model deserves a stand or a base.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of civil ships and ocean liners.
  • Modelers who want a large ship at the space-saving 1:700 scale.
  • Anyone interested in modern passenger shipping.
  • Builders who like working with crisp color transitions and fine detail.

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The exact length of the finished model is stated on the box. 1:700 is the most space-saving scale for ships, so the model will fit even a smaller display case.

The instructions supplied with the kit decide. The hull can also be cut down at the waterline by hand, but the decision has to be made before any gluing.

The parts list in the instructions decides. Photo-etched railings are commonly bought separately for ship models.

She is built for a scheduled run across the Atlantic - a stronger hull and a higher service speed, not just accommodation for calm waters.
