USS Kitty Hawk CV-63 is a plastic kit of the American aircraft carrier in 1:700 scale from the maker Trumpeter. The set holds a one-piece hull, a detailed flight deck and hangar deck, photo-etched sheet and a set of carrier aircraft.

An extensive plastic kit of the American aircraft carrier of the Kitty Hawk class. The model is conceived as a full-hull version with a one-piece hull and an elaborate flight deck as well as a hangar deck. In the package you will find several hundred injection molded parts on dozens of sprues, clear parts, photo-etched sheet, decals, a stand and a nameplate. A set of carrier aircraft and helicopters is included too, so the deck and the hangar can both be filled.
The Kitty Hawk was laid down in December 1956, launched in May 1960 and entered service in April 1961. She was the first ship of the class of attack aircraft carriers named after her, which followed on from the Forrestal class and brought a reworked arrangement of the elevators and of the island superstructure. The Kitty Hawk was the last conventionally powered attack aircraft carrier of the US Navy, served for over four decades and was retired in 2009. In the later period her air wing was made up of machines such as the F/A-18, the EA-6B, the E-2C and SH-60 helicopters.
With a large ship it pays to build in subassemblies: the hull and the deck separately, the superstructure separately, the deck aircraft last of all. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue and the plastic ones with thin cement for plastic. Apply a primer before painting, which will unify the plastic, the photo-etched parts and the filled joints. The flight deck is best sprayed with an airbrush in a dark shade and the differing shades of the individual panels and the traces of wear then suggested; the guide and safety lines are provided as decals. Paint the hull in bands and spray the transitions finely. At the end add a light wash into the detail of the superstructure and a matte varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
