About product

Focke-Wulf TL Jager Flitzer 1:72, Revell Model Set

An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale in the Model Set version. A Model Set box means that the manufacturer has added basic paints, a brush and glue to the kit, so it can be built without anything else being bought; the package also holds decals and a pictorial instruction sheet. The manufacturer gives 38 parts, which makes this box a suitable start for younger or beginning modelers. The recommended age is, according to the manufacturer, from twelve years.

The real subject

The Flitzer was a jet fighter project of the Focke-Wulf design office from the last months of the Second World War. It had a short, compact fuselage, air intakes at the wing roots and a pair of tail booms. Development reached a full-size wooden mock-up and was then stopped in 1945, because the remaining resources went into other programs. The aircraft therefore never flew and no prototype was built. For a modeler it is a typical representative of the group of German projects that got onto paper and onto a mock-up, but not into the air.

Building and painting tips

Glue the plastic parts with a liquid cement for plastic that welds the joint; it pays off in time to add one of those to the glue supplied. Before painting it is good to degrease the parts and spray a thin coat of filler primer, so that the paint holds and any unclosed seams show up. Because the real aircraft never flew, the color scheme is a matter of choice; the decals in the box offer hypothetical markings.

Who the model is for

  • Beginning modelers who want one box with everything needed
  • Collectors of German aircraft projects of 1944 and 1945
  • Builders looking for a quick build in 1:72

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. According to the manufacturer the Model Set contains basic paints, a brush and glue; further accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

With the Model Set version, no. The manufacturer packs basic paints, a brush and glue into the box. A liquid cement for plastic and a filler primer are still worth adding, because they are more comfortable to work with.

Never. The project reached a full-size wooden mock-up and was stopped in 1945, so no prototype came about. The model therefore represents an unrealized design.

Yes. The number of parts is 38 according to the manufacturer and the recommended age is from twelve years, so it is a short build. A sharp knife, a file and patience with the decals will help toward a clean result.

The color scheme is a matter of choice. The decals in the box offer hypothetical markings; many modelers pick period German shades from the end of the war so that the model fits into the display case with the other aircraft.
