The Aviaeology ADD72S104 decal sheet in 1:72 scale carries technical and maintenance airframe stencils for the Hawker Hurricane Mk.I, Mk.II and Mk.IV. These are not national insignia or the markings of a particular machine.

A sheet from the Airframe Stencil Data series: its content is the technical and maintenance stencil markings for the Hawker Hurricane. Roundels, the fin stripe, squadron codes and serial numbers are not on it - this brand has separate sheets for those. Maintenance stencils are the small notices and symbols on the airframe: filler points, access panels, warnings, places that must not be stepped on or where a support belongs. On a model they are exactly the details that set finished work apart from a model with roundels alone. The series covers further types as well; for the de Havilland Mosquito in the same scale the manufacturer has the part number ADD72S105.
The Hurricane went through several families during the war. The Mk.I carried a Merlin II or III engine and eight machine guns and fought in the Battle of Britain. The Mk.II had the stronger Merlin XX and subversions with twelve machine guns, with four cannon or with 40 mm anti-tank guns. The Mk.IV had the universal wing, which took rockets, bombs and cannon, and it was above all a ground-attack machine. The extent of the stencil markings changed between the families and between production blocks, which is why variants appear among them.
Decals are not applied with modeling cement. They go onto dried gloss varnish, are seated with water and a decal fixer and, on broken surfaces, with a decal softener, so that the film follows the rivets and panel lines. Cut the individual markings out close to the artwork. Apply the stencils only after the decals for the national insignia and the codes, so that they do not overlap; compare the placement with the instruction sheet and with a photograph.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
