A set of unpainted plastic figures in 1:72 scale representing modern American infantrymen. The box states 30 figures. This is not a vehicle kit and not an add-on set for a model: the figures serve to bring a diorama, a vignette or a scene beside a model of equipment or aircraft to life.
In a diorama the infantry is what gives equipment its size and its point. American infantry of the late twentieth century and of the start of the present one wears a helmet with a layered cover, a load-bearing vest and weapons of the M16 series, which in this scale are recognizable more by their silhouette than by their detail. 1:72 is the most widespread scale for figures among modelers, because it matches the most common scale for aircraft models and is close to the 1:76 scale of railway and diorama accessories. That is why sets like this one are used to populate scenes with helicopters, armored personnel carriers and airfield views.
Plastic figures in 1:72 tend to be molded from a finer and more flexible plastic on which paint holds less well. Wash them first in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap, let them dry and give them a thin coat of primer. Carefully trim the flash on the outlines or sand it with fine paper. A base shade is enough for the uniform, with a dark wash in the folds and careful edge highlighting with a dry brush; the face does the most good if, after the skin tone, it gets only a dark wash and a point of light.
The figures are supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and bases are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
