An injection-molded plastic kit of a Soviet fire engine with the PMZ-2 fire-fighting body on the ZiS-42 half-track chassis, in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer PST. The combination of fire-fighting equipment and a half-track is rare among models, so it makes an unusual addition to a vehicle collection and to civilian dioramas. It is not a combat vehicle.
The half-track ZiS-42 was derived from the ZiS-5 truck and received tracked running gear in place of the rear axle, which gave it mobility in mud and snow. The PMZ-2 fire-fighting body was originally mounted on ordinary truck chassis, but toward the end of the war it also appeared on this half-track. The combination produced an emergency vehicle that got to places where ordinary equipment could not. Vehicles with this body stayed in Soviet fire service long after the war and disappeared only with the arrival of the newer types of the 1950s.
Finish the tracked running gear and paint it before you close the assembly up, as you will not get to it later. Paint the body and the cab separately and glue them on only after spraying. The red finish of fire-fighting equipment stands out best over a light filler primer, in two or three thin coats. Pick out the brass fittings, the hoses and the lamps with a brush. Finish with dust and mud on the tracks and the underside so that the mobility of the real subject comes across. Apply the weathering on the red surface carefully.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
