Fairey Firefly — the eighteenth volume of the Airframe Album series from Valiant Wings Publishing, a specialist publication on the two-seat carrier aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a specialist publication for modelers, not a kit. The eighteenth volume of the numbered Airframe Album series of the British publishing house Valiant Wings Publishing was written by Richard A. Franks and devoted to the two-seat carrier aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm.
The Fairey Firefly was a two-seat carrier-based fighter and reconnaissance aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm. It was powered by the powerful liquid-cooled Rolls-Royce Griffon engine, the wing had its characteristic Youngman flaps and an observer sat behind the pilot. It saw combat toward the end of World War II in Norway and above all in the Pacific, where machines from British aircraft carriers took part in attacks on Japanese oil installations on Sumatra. In the Korean War Fireflies attacked ground targets, and the later versions stayed in service right into the sixties.
For modelers who build any version of the Firefly and need to check the wing fold, the form of the flaps, the observer's cockpit and the naval camouflage. It will appeal to anyone interested in the history of carrier aviation as well.
