Fairey Barracuda — the nineteenth volume of the Airframe Album series from Valiant Wings Publishing, a specialist publication on the first monoplane torpedo bomber of the Fleet Air Arm.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a specialist publication for modelers, not a kit. The nineteenth volume of the numbered Airframe Album series of the British publishing house Valiant Wings Publishing was written by Richard A. Franks and devoted to the first monoplane torpedo bomber of the Fleet Air Arm.
The Fairey Barracuda took the place of the Albacore and Swordfish biplanes with the Fleet Air Arm. It was an all-metal design with a high-set wing, Youngman flaps, a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine and a crew of three; the machine could carry both a torpedo and bombs and press home a dive attack. Its best known operation was Operation Tungsten in April 1944, when Barracudas from British aircraft carriers struck the battleship Tirpitz in a Norwegian fjord. Later the type also found use in the Pacific and in anti-submarine service.
For modelers who build any form of the Barracuda and need reference for the wing fold, the flaps, the torpedo mounting and the naval camouflage. It will appeal to anyone interested in the attacks on the Tirpitz and in carrier aviation in general as well.
