Avro Lancaster Mk.I and Mk.III, the late production batches 1943 to 1945 is volume 15 of the Wingleader Photo Archive photographic series from the British publisher Wingleader.
Responsibility details are not available.
A photographic publication, volume 15 of the numbered Wingleader Photo Archive series from the British publisher Wingleader. It follows on where volume 5 of the same series, with the early batches of the years 1941 to 1943, leaves off, so the distinguishing mark is the production period, not the version designation. The correct form of the designation is Mk.I, not M.I.
The late Lancasters looked different from the machines of the first batches. A radome with ground-mapping radar for navigation and bombing through cloud was added under the fuselage, the turrets, the glazing and the exhausts changed, and the machines carried jamming and warning equipment that the German night defenses had forced on them. The Mk.I flew with British Merlins, the Mk.III with license-built Packards, and the two versions were mixed within squadrons. It was these machines that flew the raids on Berlin, the support of the landings and the last campaign of 1945, so they also carry late markings and lettering that have no place on an early Lancaster.
For modelers who build a late Lancaster and want the equipment to match 1944 or 1945, and for anyone interested in the night bombing offensive. It is a book, that is picture reference with no tie to a scale.
