A publication, not a kit. Volume No. 77 of the Warpaint series, by Kev Darling, goes through the whole P-40 family — the individual versions, the air arms that operated them and their markings.
The Curtiss P-40 was an American single-engine fighter and ground-attack aircraft with the liquid-cooled Allison V-1710 engine; the F and L versions got the Packard Merlin. The British used the name Tomahawk for the early versions and Kittyhawk for the later ones, while the US Army Air Forces spoke of the Warhawk. It did not stand out at high altitude, but it was tough, it dived well and it was on hand at the moment when it was needed. It made its name with the volunteer units in China, with the shark mouth on the nose, and over North Africa.
For modelers who are working out which name belongs to which version and how the nose differs between the individual lines, and for readers interested in the war in Africa and in the Pacific. As a reference it serves when choosing camouflage and markings and when checking the details that differ between the individual versions. It can be read on its own, without previous knowledge of the subject, and it works as a general survey of the type as well.
