A publication, not a kit. Volume No. 83 of the Warpaint series, by William Harrison, follows the Battle from the design through its combat use in 1940 to its service as a trainer and as a target tug.
The Fairey Battle was a British single-engine light bomber with the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine and a crew of three. Against the biplanes it replaced it was a big step forward; against the fighters of 1940 it was already slow and its defensive armament was weak. Over France the Battle squadrons suffered devastating losses and the type was withdrawn to training; in Canada and in Australia it finished its service as a trainer and as a target tug for aerial targets.
For modelers of the early phase of the British air war who are working out the camouflage and markings of 1939 to 1940, and for readers interested in the Battle of France. As a reference it serves when choosing camouflage and markings and when checking the details that differ between the individual versions. It can be read on its own, without previous knowledge of the subject, and it works as a general survey of the type as well.
