Fairey Gannet is a monograph on the British carrier-borne anti-submarine aircraft. It came out in the British Warpaint 23 series, which devotes each volume to a single aircraft type and sums up its development, its service and its appearance in one A4-format booklet. The author of the volume is Steve Hazell. The publication is in English. It is not a kit and not an accessory for building a model.
The Gannet was created for British naval aviation as a carrier-borne machine for finding and destroying submarine targets. Its most striking feature was the Double Mamba turboprop unit with two contra-rotating propellers: one half of the engine could be shut down on a long patrol to save fuel. The crew was three men. The later AEW.3 version carried an early warning radar and stayed in service until the 1970s.
The volume will be appreciated by modelers who build carrier-borne aircraft of British naval aviation and need reliable pictorial as well as camouflage reference. The combination of photographs, plans and color schemes will serve as reference both for building and for painting a model.
