A monograph on the British Javelin delta fighter, volume number 17 of the British Warpaint series, by Tony Buttler. It is a printed publication about the aircraft, not a kit and not an accessory for a build. The series is set up so that one volume covers one type from the prototype to the last version — through archive photographs, color profiles and scale drawings.
The Javelin was the first delta aircraft to reach squadron service with the RAF and at the same time a two-seat all-weather fighter: the pilot in front, the radar operator behind him. It was powered by two Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire engines and its silhouette is unmistakable — a large delta wing and a tailplane set high above the fin. That very combination brought it trouble early on with its behavior at high angles of attack, which had to be settled by changes to the wing. Later versions were given radar and guided missiles, so the type went through a number of marks and offers a modeler more than one finish.
Above all for modelers who are building a model of this type and are looking for reference on the colors, the markings and the details of a particular machine. Then for aviation historians and collectors of monographs, who will find the series a quick and clear reference handbook to a single type. The text is in English, so a basic command of the language is assumed.
