A publication, not a kit. Volume No. 87 of the Warpaint series, by the author Charles Stafrace, goes through the versions of the Avenger, their armament, the services that used them and their markings.
The Grumman TBF Avenger was an American carrier-based torpedo bomber with a Wright R-2600 engine, an internal bomb bay and an electrically powered dorsal gun turret. Besides Grumman it was built in quantity by the Eastern Aircraft division of the General Motors car company under the designation TBM, and nearly ten thousand were completed in all. It first went into action at Midway, took part in sinking Japanese battleships and after the war served for a long time in the anti-submarine and patrol role.
For modelers of carrier aircraft who are working out the differences between the TBF and TBM series and between the gun turrets, and for readers with an interest in the war in the Pacific. As a source it serves for choosing camouflage and markings and for checking the details that differ between individual versions. It can be read on its own, without previous knowledge of the real subject, and it also works as a general survey of the type.
