The second part of the new treatment of the Hurricane Mk.I from the publisher Wingleader, volume number 43 of the Photo Archive series, 72 pages in a softcover binding, in English, by the authors Mark Postlethwaite and Mariusz Lozynski. The distinguishing mark is again the production series: this part runs from the middle of the P series to the Z series, that is roughly from the Battle of France to 1941. The publisher moreover put into it the detail pages that would not fit into the first part, and on the inside cover a survey of the modifications to the equipment from the beginning of production.
Up to the middle of the P series the Hurricane Mk.I changed a great deal, after which the design was essentially settled, and that is exactly where the publisher divided the subject into two books. The machines of this period carried a metal wing, a variable-pitch metal propeller and an armored windscreen, and after the Battle of Britain night operations and tasks over the Channel were added to them. The machine stayed simple in design all the while: a lattice fuselage with fabric at the rear, which could be repaired in the field, and that made it the mainstay of the defense of the islands.
The second part is for a modeler who is building a Hurricane Mk.I from the Battle of Britain and the years after it and needs evidence for the equipment of a particular series. Thanks to the detail pages and the survey of modifications it can also be used as a companion to the first part, which takes the early machines of the L series up to the first P. Anyone who wants overseas Hurricanes will not find them in either of the two parts.
