Hawker Hurricane Part 2 - UK Based Fighters and Bombers (November 1940 - December 1942) — the thirty-third volume of the Wingleader Photo Archive series on the Hurricanes from British bases after the Battle of Britain.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a photographic publication for modelers and aviation historians, not a kit. The thirty-third volume of the numbered Photo Archive series of the British publisher Wingleader was written by Neil Robinson. The distinguishing mark is twofold and stands in the title: machines operating from British bases and the period from November 1940 to December 1942, that is after the Battle of Britain. The early Hurricane Mk.Is have a special edition of their own in the same series, in two parts.
After the Battle of Britain the Hurricane stopped being the main interceptor, but it did not go into reserve. The Mk.II version with the Merlin XX engine was given substantially heavier armament: twelve machine guns, or four cannon of 20 mm caliber. From British bases the squadrons flew offensive tasks over the Channel and night intruder sorties over occupied France; machines with bomb racks earned the nickname Hurribomber. Alongside that the Hurricanes did the work of a night fighter and trained new pilots. It is precisely this period that is the most interesting in photographs, because it is when camouflage, armament and roles mix the most.
For modelers who build the Hurricane Mk.II and need evidence about the armament, the racks and the night camouflage of the defined period. It will appeal to readers interested in the offensive flights over the Channel as well.
