A publication, not a kit. Volume 93 of the aviation series from the British publisher Warpaint Books, by Kev Darling, is devoted to the Messerschmitt Me 262. The drawings and color profiles for the volume were prepared by Richard J Caruana. The text is in English and the softcover format is close to A4.
The Me 262 was the first jet fighter to reach combat service. It had a slightly swept wing, two axial Junkers Jumo 004 engines in nacelles under the wing and an armament of four 30 mm cannons grouped in the nose, exceptionally effective against bomber formations. Its introduction dragged on, however: the engines had a short life and low reliability, and development was further delayed by the demand that the aircraft also fill the role of a fast bomber, on which the highest German leadership insisted. Fighter and bomber versions therefore arose in parallel, and later two-seat night fighters with radar as well. What shows most on a model is precisely the difference between the fighter and the bomber version and between the single-seat and the two-seat cockpit.
For modelers who build the Me 262 and need to tell the versions and their markings apart, and for anyone interested in the beginnings of jet aviation. The extent of the volume is not stated here; the page count differs between the individual titles in the series.
