PT-HD 3,175mm General Purpose Hand Drill is a DSPIAE hand holder for bits with a 3.175 mm shank. The package holds five carbide drill bits from 0.5 to 2.0 mm.

A shank 3.175 mm in diameter is a widespread standard that drill bits, cutters and abrasive heads are made to. The PT-HD holder is built for exactly that: a tool is slid into the jaw and secured, so a change takes a second and needs no key. One holder therefore serves a whole stock of tools, provided they have the same shank.
The body is of plastic, the clamping section of zinc alloy. The cross section is polygonal, so a tool set down does not roll off the bench. The cap has a double function: it protects a fitted bit and, once put on the back end, it extends the holder, which helps when drilling deep or in an awkward position. There is a magnet in the clamping section that keeps a bit from falling out during a change.
It suits modelers who already have tools with a 3.175 mm shank, and those who want a separate holder for coarser holes and to leave their thin bits in another one. The five bits in the package cover the diameters most often reached for in modeling.
A quick change has a practical effect: during a build two or three diameters often get alternated on one part, for instance pilot drilling and then widening a hole. With keyless clamping that is a matter of a second, so you do not catch yourself simply forcing a hole through with an unsuitable bit.
The bits are sharp, so leave the cap on them and press along the axis while working, so that the carbide does not chip.
