It came out in the British Warpaint 38 series, which devotes each volume to a single aircraft type and sums up its development, service and appearance in a single booklet in A4 format. The F-105 was a single-seat supersonic fighter-bomber with a single J75 turbojet and was among the largest machines in its category. As one of the few combat aircraft it had an internal bomb bay, originally intended for a nuclear weapon. It carried the main weight of the strikes over North Vietnam, where it earned the nickname Thud. The two-seat F-105F and F-105G versions served for the suppression of surface-to-air missile sites.
