A picture book from the Wingleader publishing house, volume number 35 of the Photo Archive series. The author is Peter Allam, the extent is 72 pages in a softcover binding and the text is in English. It is not a model and not a set of parts. The publisher limits the volume solely to the early Mk.I and Mk.IA versions and leaves the later marks to further volumes of the series.
The Wellington was a twin-engine medium bomber whose fuselage and wing both rested on Barnes Wallis's geodetic lattice structure. That is exactly what gave it the reputation of an aircraft that would come back even with its covering shot away. The early Mk.I and Mk.IA differ from the later machines in their gun turrets, their glazing and small things on the engine nacelles, so it is on these that mistakes in building are most often made. The author also takes note of the special tasks the early Wellingtons took part in, including the machines with the SCI installation and the DWI minesweepers with the large magnetic ring.
The volume is intended for modelers who are building an early version of the Wellington and need to tell what really was on the Mk.I and Mk.IA and what already belongs to the later marks. It will also serve anyone interested in the beginnings of the RAF night bomber force. If you are building a later Wellington with Hercules radial engines or the Coastal Command versions, look for a different volume in the series, because this one does not cover them.
