Quicksand Brown keeps to the ground literally. It is a light yellow-brown tone of the kind every base with dried-out soil, every desert rut and every ammunition box swept over by a sandstorm needs. On figures it sets canvas straps, packs and shelter halves into a position where they look worn without losing the definition of the folds.
The shade is opaque, so even over a dark base it holds after two thin coats and does not have to be whipped into a thick paste. Water is enough both for thinning and for washing a brush out at once. Once dry the surface stays matte, which is an advantage for dusty areas: the light does not reflect off them and the area looks dry.
The package consists of a bottle with a dropper neck; the cap seats tightly and prevents the contents from drying out. Inside, a metal ball moves freely, which mixes up the pigment pulled to the bottom within a moment. Measuring out in drops is useful especially with this tone, because it is often mixed with ocher or gray into transitions of one's own.
For a layer of dust a thin glaze is suitable, that is heavily thinned paint pulled down off the edges so that it settles only in the corners and on horizontal surfaces. With a dry brush the edges of stones and tire prints are then brought out and the scene gains depth without a single further shade.
