Acrylic rods of circular section 1.6 mm in diameter, that is thin rods of rigid clear plastic, this time in a fluorescent green version. Fluorescent acrylic carries the light it absorbs through the material and gives it out at the edges and at the cut, so the end of a rod glows more strongly than its surface. The effect shows best in daylight and under blue or ultraviolet light.
For glowing elements on science-fiction and fantasy models, for energy blades, projectiles and lines of fire, for signals and beacons in a diorama and for any small thing meant to draw the eye in a finished scene. The material can also be used as a load-bearing pin that joins two parts and stays clear at the same time.
Do not cut the rod with nippers, which crush it, but with a fine-toothed saw or a sharp blade while turning the rod. Sand the cut with fine paper and then polish it; a polished cut glows noticeably more than a matte one. Bond with super glue or with cement for hard plastics, sparingly and away from the visible surface, because glue residue leaves a white haze on clear material. The rod does not have to be painted; its color belongs to the material itself.
