A replacement air cap in the crown pattern, that is with teeth cut out around the circumference. It is not decoration: the cutouts let air out around the nozzle, so paint does not build up on the tip, which otherwise starts to spoil the spray pattern after a while. The second benefit is finer atomization, because the additional airflow breaks the paint up better, which is useful for soft transitions and shading.
The cap is a part tied to a particular line of guns, so check before buying that it matches your model. When fitting it, tighten it by hand and only lightly; force damages the fine thread and the nozzle underneath. The open design also has its drawback: the exposed needle tip is more vulnerable, so take care when putting the gun down and when cleaning. Clean the cap after work, because dried paint in the teeth cancels out the effect.
For anyone who sprays with an airbrush and struggles with paint building up on the tip, and for those replacing a worn part. It will be appreciated above all by the modeler who sprays long areas in one go and does not want to interrupt the work to wipe the nozzle.
