A wood pattern is among the details that are the hardest to paint by hand. Irregular growth rings and grain can only be imitated with a brush with some experience, and on a small area the work is slow. The stencil carries the pattern cut out, so all you have to do is spray over it and the structure appears evenly over the whole area. The size of 60 x 40 mm is aimed at small areas, that is, at crates, pallets, floors, cabins, the load areas of vehicles and the wooden features of buildings in a diorama. According to the name the density of the pattern is built for the 1:48 and 1:32 scales.
First spray a lighter base and let it dry perfectly, because the wood pattern is created only by a darker application over it. Lay the stencil on the surface and hold it so that it does not stand off anywhere, as a gap under the edge will blur the pattern. Spray perpendicularly from above, at low pressure and with a small amount of paint, in several passes if you like. An angled stream gets under the edge and the edges of the cut-out lose their sharpness. Between individual areas, turn or shift the stencil so that the pattern does not visibly repeat. Wipe it straight after the work while the paint is still wet, as dried paint narrows the cut-out and the pattern then comes out weaker.
It will be appreciated by a diorama builder as well as by a modeler who needs to unify the look of wooden parts on several models. The pattern can also be laid over itself and the shades blended, and the result then comes close to the real irregularity of wood.
The stencil is supplied on its own. Paints, an airbrush and masking tape are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
