AK Synthetic Brush — FLAT 2 (AK interactive)

A flat brush with synthetic filaments and a square-cut head from AK interactive. It is a modeling tool, not a kit — an aid for applying paint by hand. The flat shape is the exact opposite of the round one: while a round brush tapers to a point and serves for detail and markings, a flat brush lays paint down in a continuous, even layer and its straight edge can draw sharp, straight transitions. Size 2 is one step larger than size 1 — it picks up more paint and covers an area in fewer strokes, which helps everywhere a smaller brush would leave visible joins between strokes.

Use

• Base coats on larger areas — fuselages, hulls, wings, decks, display bases and the bases of dioramas.
• Laying paint down evenly with a minimum of visible strokes thanks to the wider head.
• Straight edges and sharp transitions between fields of color.
• Applying primers and matte and gloss clear coats before and after decals.
• Blending washes and filters across a surface, dry brush on edges and raised detail.
• Suitable for acrylic and enamel paints — the synthetic filaments stand up to common thinners.

Care of the brush

• Clean it immediately after painting — paint dried at the ferrule will splay the head for good.
• Always clean it with the filaments, never pull the brush against the hair.
• Do not press with the brush and do not stir paint in a pot with it — that deforms the head.
• After cleaning, straighten the filaments back into shape and let them dry freely.
• Store it head up in a stand, and never rest the brush on its filaments.

Who it is for

For modelers who paint by hand with a brush or add hand work to an airbrush and need a reliable brush for areas. A good choice as a slightly larger companion to size 1 — two sizes cover most of the area work on a model.

The brush is a modeling accessory, not a kit. Paints, thinners and varnishes are not included in the package. The life of a brush depends above all on cleaning it immediately after use.
