The eighth number in the numbered range of accessory sets from the Japanese manufacturer Bandai. It is not a kit in its own right but an accessory with which you extend or vary a model you have already built. Unlike some other numbers in the range, this set has no subtitle in its name, so check the contents of the package on the box before you buy.
Bandai builds what are called snap-fit kits: the parts are already colored right through and join by simply snapping together. You need neither glue nor paints, and nippers and a sharp knife will do. The procedure is simple: nip the part off a little away from the edge, trim the rest of the gate and go over it with fine abrasive paper. On colored plastic a roughly broken gate shows up as a white lightening, so care pays off.
Anyone who wants to can paint it. Pre-colored plastic can be repainted without trouble: degrease it, spray it with a primer and apply the paint with a brush or an airbrush. Even without an overall respray the result is lifted by wiping thin paint into the engraved lines, a light wash in the recesses and a final varnish: a matte one unifies the sheen of different sprues, a gloss one prepares a base for decals.
