The ATOM range is a water-thinnable acrylic developed for the airbrush as well as the brush. The set gathers the first half of the whole palette, that is ninety numbers in a continuous run, and adds three auxiliary fluids: a thinner, a thinner with a drying retarder and a fluid for the chipping technique. Anyone starting from nothing gets a workshop ready-made in a single purchase.
The range begins with white and gray bases, goes on through wood, sand and desert tones, the German shades of dark yellow and a whole scale of yellows from lemon to golden. Oranges and reds follow, then purples and pinks, then flesh tones for figure painters and an extensive group of browns and rusty tones. Closing them are the first greens, among them dark olive and several shades to German and Soviet specifications.
A range like this makes sense where building goes across subjects: military vehicles, aircraft, figures and fantasy models alike. Most of the shades are named after a particular specification, so what they belong to can be traced and nothing is mixed by eye. The arrangement in the case also keeps the numbers in order, so hunting for a bottle takes no longer than the spraying itself.
Acrylic dries quickly and the tools are cleaned with water while the layer is still fresh. The retarder in the set is useful above all in summer, when the paint dries on its way out of the nozzle.
The second half of the palette is a separate case.
