Six ATOM acrylic shades for the aircraft of the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force of the Second World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
The fighters and attack machines of the Imperial Japanese Army were built above all by two firms, Nakajima and Kawasaki, and each of them used its own recipe for the camouflage green. The difference between them shows at first glance, and it is one of the reasons why Japanese army vehicles cannot be dealt with by a single green paint. This set allows for that and holds both variants.
There are six shades in the package. Besides the pair of greens just mentioned there are two gray-green tones used on the undersides and in interiors, a brown for secondary surfaces and a silver for unpainted metal surfaces. A glossy duralumin finish was in fact common on a number of army types, especially on machines deployed over the home islands.
The set will cover the typical representatives of the army air force: light fighters, the later fast types and training machines as well. It is just as usable for a large scale as for small models, because it is a standard opaque acrylic with no particular grain.
The shades take being applied with an airbrush as well as a brush and are thinned with water or with the thinner of the same range. On metal surfaces it pays to smooth the base beforehand, because silver paint brings out every scratch. The dried finish is matte; a sheen is reached only by clear-coating over it.
The bottle has to be shaken thoroughly before every use, because the colorant in an acrylic dispersion settles to the bottom. Shades from one range mix with each other without the risk of curdling, so you can move smoothly between the two greens and create a shade matching the fading of tropical service.
