0.5 mm is the lower limit this line offers, and it is a size intended for places where a joint is to be noticeable but must not draw attention to itself. In 1:12 scale it matches a real head six millimeters wide, that is an M4 screw. On a motorcycle such screws hold the instrument covers, the ignition switch housing or the edging of the fairing.
A six-lobe recess is a finer pattern than a hexagon and at this diameter it comes close to the limit of what the naked eye can resolve. That, however, is no disadvantage: in a photograph and in direct light a small star reads as a precise machined component, whereas a smooth head comes across as a drop of paint. Bringing it out with a dark wash does the greatest service here of all the sizes of the line.
On real machines the star drive replaced the older types above all where an exact tightening torque is needed and there is little room for a key. Models of present-day road motorcycles therefore come across as correct for their period with this shape, while on a machine of the 1960s it would be an anachronism.
At this size it pays to prepare a shallow dish and to work over it, because catching a fallen element on a table practically never works. Drill the hole as exactly as you can; with small diameters the clearance is proportionally greater and the head then tilts.
A smaller diameter is no longer offered by the brand in this group, and that is not an omission. Below 0.5 mm the star pattern would merge into a smooth little face and the element would stop serving its purpose, which is to carry a legible shape. The lower end of the scale is thus set by the technology of manufacture as well as by the point of the whole accessory.
