Miniature bolts with a hex head and a collar beneath it, in sizes from 0.8 to 1.2 mm. They serve to replace the bland molded imitations of bolts on a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A bolt is everywhere on a real machine and the eye looks for it, even if it will not admit as much. On a model, though, an injection mold can manage it only as a shallow hexagonal bump that blends into its surroundings once painted. Separate miniature bolts even this out: they have a crisp hex and a collar under the head, so they really do stand on the surface and cast a shadow of their own. The size range of the set is 0.8 to 1.2 mm.
First try out on a practice piece of plastic which drill matches the bolt. Drill the hole square and rather shallower than the shank; a deep hole swallows the bolt and the head seats crooked. Pick the bolt up with fine-jawed tweezers, apply a drop of cyanoacrylate glue into the hole with a wire rather than straight onto the part, and insert the bolt in one movement. Surplus glue around the head dulls the surface, so meter it really sparingly.
A tiny bolt that falls on the floor is gone for good, so work over a light surface and over a table edge with a rim. Install the bolts only after the part has been painted, otherwise the layer of paint fills the fine hex and the point of the swap is lost. If you do need to paint a bolt, spray it in a thin coat and let the edges of the head stand out through a metallic or darker base showing through.
For builders of motorcycles, cars and machinery who take a model to a level of detail that stands up to a macro lens. They also suit dioramas and the repair of places where the original detail was sanded away. The model, paints, glue and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
